Educated at Haberdashers Askes School and University College London, Ian read Economics and Economic History. He is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. He was President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in 1994/95, the year when it obtained its Royal Charter.
Ian is an Alderman of the City of London, and Chairman of its Finance Committee. He is a Partner in Grant Thornton, and Deputy Chairman of the Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is also a Governor of the Royal Veterinary College.
