City Parochial Foundation: Mission Statement
We exist to benefit the poor of London.
We aim to enable and empower the poor of London to tackle poverty and its root causes, and to ensure that our funds reach those most in need.
'London' is defined as the historic Metropolitan Police District.
Objectives
• To maintain the value of our permanent endowments in real terms.
• Within that constraint, to maximise the income generated by our endowments.
• To use our income to address those needs of London's poor that, from time to time, are identified by our Trustees as priorities.
Values
(1) the most effective way of benefiting the poor of London is by working with, and funding, charitable organisations seeking to address our objectives and priorities.
(2) the funding of such charitable organisations should be as fair, accessible and transparent as possible, and preferably in support of innovative approaches towards the needs of London’s poor. Our Trustees guard against any drift towards financially supporting organisations that, however laudable their objectives and activities, are not benefiting the genuinely poor.
(3) we should use all of our non-financial resources to influence and promote policies and practices that benefit the poor of London. Such resources include our Trustees, staff, volunteers, consultants, advisers and nominees to external bodies; our reputation as a sensitive and innovative funder; our knowledge of poverty in general and the poor of London in particular.
(4) as far as practicable, we should work in collaboration with other organisations also working to benefit the poor of London.
(5) Our Trustees, staff, volunteers, consultants and advisers should act courteously towards all with whom they have contact in their activities on behalf our Foundation.
(6) we should act with legal and financial prudence in all our activities.
